last week we talked about the oldest surving tarot decks theres only four of them dated around the mid 1400s 

two of which can be seen at the morgan library downtown and highly reccomeneded --


these decks are called the visconti-sforza decks 

the true history of the tarot is unknown -- 

variant ideas suggest gypsies - egyptian magic - kabla influences - the greek oracles -- and even ancient alchemy all having a hand in bringing them into being....


they appear as a diversion around  1500 -- but not until the late 1700s do they start to take shape as a form of divination...and then not until 200 years later do we get to the standardized deck that we all know today

a basic deck is divided into two arcana -- major and minor 

the minor is four suits -- wants - pantalces - cups and swords

each suit is numbered one through ten and then there four face cards -- 

and then there are 22 major cards -- 


and just remember -- its nice to be important but its important to be nice --
